1. Summary

Clauselab is a client-side web application. It does not operate a backend server. It does not use accounts, authentication, cookies, analytics, advertising trackers, or any third-party script that profiles users. All data you enter into Clauselab is stored in your own browser. The Publisher does not have access to it, cannot view it, and cannot recover it if your browser loses it.

2. Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to anyone who accesses the Clauselab website at any URL where the Publisher makes it available, including GitHub Pages deployments under the Publisher's account. It describes how personal data is handled in connection with the Clauselab site itself, not by any third-party provider you choose to integrate (for example, an AI model provider).

3. What data Clauselab collects directly

None. The Publisher does not collect, receive, store, or process any personal data from your use of Clauselab. The site is static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript delivered to your browser, where it runs locally.

4. What data you store in your own browser

When you use Clauselab, the following data may be stored in your browser's local storage mechanisms (IndexedDB and localStorage) on the device you are using:

  • Contracts you add, including title, counterparty, type, status, dates, value, governing law, tags, notes, and any other metadata you enter.
  • Custom clauses you create, including title, category, jurisdiction, tags, and clause text.
  • Application settings, including your selected AI provider and the model you choose.
  • API keys you enter for AI review, stored in localStorage of the browser on which you entered them.

This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly export it, or until you run an AI review, in which case the text you submit and the API key you use are transmitted by your browser directly to the AI provider you selected.

5. Hosting provider and server logs

Clauselab is a static site. When hosted on a platform such as GitHub Pages, that platform may automatically log routine HTTP request information (for example, IP address, user-agent string, requested URL, timestamp, and referrer) for security, abuse prevention, and performance monitoring. These logs are controlled by the hosting provider under its own privacy policy, not by the Publisher. For GitHub Pages, see the GitHub privacy statement.

The Publisher does not have access to any identifying log data beyond what the hosting provider may make available as aggregated analytics. The Publisher does not correlate such information with Clauselab users or contract content.

6. Third-party services

Clauselab loads the following third-party resources to function:

  • Google Fonts. The site uses Inter and Outfit from Google Fonts for typography. Google may log the IP address and user-agent of browsers that request these resources. Google's privacy practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

Clauselab does not embed, and the Publisher does not use, analytics tools, advertising networks, social plugins, or third-party cookies.

7. AI review feature — BYOK

The AI review feature operates on a "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) basis. You choose the AI provider (Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic), you enter your own API key, and your browser sends the text you submit directly to that provider's API. The Publisher does not receive this text, cannot read it, and does not act as an intermediary.

When you use this feature, you are subject to the privacy policy and terms of the AI provider you select. The Publisher encourages you to review those terms before submitting any confidential, privileged, or personal data. In particular:

  • Google. See Gemini API Terms.
  • OpenAI. See OpenAI Privacy Policy.
  • Anthropic. See Anthropic Privacy Policy.

The Publisher has no control over and is not responsible for how any AI provider handles data you submit to it.

8. Your API key

If you choose to use the AI review feature, your API key is stored in your browser's localStorage. It is readable by any script running on this origin and by anyone with physical or remote access to your browser profile. The Publisher recommends using a dedicated key with restrictive rate and spend limits, and clearing the key from the Settings page when you finish a session, especially on shared devices.

9. Children

Clauselab is intended for use by adult legal and business professionals. It is not directed at children. The Publisher does not knowingly engage with children through this service.

10. Your rights under applicable data protection law

Because the Publisher does not collect personal data from your use of Clauselab, there is no personal data held by the Publisher for you to access, rectify, erase, or port under laws such as the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 of India ("DPDPA") or the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR").

If you wish to manage data that is stored in your own browser by Clauselab, you can do so directly from the Settings page, which offers export, import, key clearing, and full-wipe controls. You can also clear the site's data through your browser's standard privacy controls.

Any personal data processed by a hosting provider or third-party AI provider in connection with your use of Clauselab is governed by that third party's privacy terms, and rights in relation to it must be exercised with that third party directly.

11. Security

Clauselab is served over HTTPS where hosted by the Publisher. The Publisher takes reasonable care in publishing the source code, but makes no warranty of security. You are responsible for the security of your own device, browser, API keys, and any backups you export. The Publisher is not liable for data loss arising from browser behaviour, device failure, or third-party action. See the Terms of Use and Disclaimer for the complete liability position.

12. Changes to this policy

The Publisher may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available at this URL, and material changes will be reflected by a revised "Effective date" at the top. Continued use of Clauselab after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

13. Governing law and contact

This policy is governed by the laws of India. Questions about this policy may be directed to the Publisher at advocatesanketshah@gmail.com.
